Profile

Dr. Barry F. Vaughan is professor of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Mesa Community College.  Dr. Vaughan received his BA in Religion (Theology major, Philosophy minor) from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1986, an MA in Philosophy and an MA in Religion from Baylor University in 1988 and 1990 respectively, and a PhD in Philosophy (AOS Ancient Greek Philosophy, AOCs Ethics, Epistemology, and Philosophy of Religion) from the University of Oklahoma in 1999.  Dr. Vaughan has been a Residential member of the faculty of Mesa Community College since 1996 and has served as an MCC Faculty Senator, Senate President (2000-2003), Maricopa Colleges Faculty Association Faculty Executive Council representative (2001-2010), and Faculty Association President (2008-2009).  He has also served on the board of Directors of the Maricopa Colleges Faculty Foundation (MCFF) since 2007 (serving as President from 2015- 2023) as well as the chairperson of the Faculty Association's Political Action Committee (FacPAC).  Dr. Vaughan created MCC's Study Abroad in Ireland program and has served as its director since 2004.

REL250 Religion in Ireland: Neolithic to Early Medieval 3 Credits

Survey of the Ancient religious traditions of Ireland. Students investigate the beliefs and practices of Irish Religions in the context of their social, economical and political systems from the late Neolithic to the early Medieval periods (4000 BCE-700 CE). Prerequisites: None.

Exploration of informal logic, including common logical fallacies, delving into symbolic logic to analyze and construct valid arguments using formal methods such as truth tables, truth trees, or proofs. Emphasis on developing critical thinking skills essential for evaluating arguments in a variety of contexts.
